My Dad was telling me about sterling engines the other day, and I remembered seeing this video not too long ago. Oh man, stuff like this just makes me giddy. A sterling engine combined with the salt water burning radiowaves. Amazing. Now, the only question in my mind is how much energy it’s taking to produce radio frequencies that can actually make salt water that unstable. I’ll be looking into this a little more. This video is seriously worth watching if you haven’t already seen it.

Here is a fun article I thought I’d share. Oh wait. It’s not fun at all. In fact it’s frightening, and maybe even a little depressing. Everything from gamma-ray bursts, to eco-system collapse. Oh man. There are so many movie scripts/Tom Clancy novels just waiting to be written based on some of these!
I can hardly wait.

As a long time Apple fan, and Mac user, I feel pretty close to the company. I really like to see them do well, since I was such an advocate during what was maybe their worst times. But I can’t help but feel oddly let down after this MacWorld keynote. I don’t think it was the lack of an, “and one more thing”. The MacBook Air seems like a REALLY solid product, and very drool worthy. I mean, if it’s one thing Apple can do, it’s the ability to bring sex appeal to hardware. So it’s no surprise , I suppose. And maybe that’s why I feel oddly… let down. Maybe I’ve come to expect too much, and I no longer worry if my favourite computer company will continue to make products I can feel passionate about. They’re pretty much set with their giant piggy bank, and a generation of people who call MP3 players, simply “iPods”.
So alas, the underdog is maybe no longer the underdog. And, maybe his Steveness and the all powerful reality distortion field will finally be brought down. Why? All of the sudden there are journalists from the PC world, and practically everywhere else who finally care to cover Apple events. And here’s where the problem lies. Not all of their last names are Pogue, and not all of them are from Mac magazines, and rumor sites.
One thing I will say though, is that I no longer feel the need to defend Apple, or its products. That says a lot in itself I think of how far Apple has come. They aren’t the underdog anymore, and great things are expected of them. When they don’t deliver, maybe there are the handful of the old faithful who still care enough to bitch about it. But, so long as they make the products others fail to deliver (ie. MacBook Air), I know I’ll continue to cheer on every success.

I found and article here that summarizes what might in fact be my greatest frustration in life. Too many ideas! It brings up the sad fact that following a, what if is always more exciting than following structure. And then, of course… starting a project is always more fun than finishing a project.
I don’t think the article actually points out anything helpful to somebody like me, but it reaffirms some of my own thoughts lately. The point though, is perhaps that the focus on one great idea is what’s needed to keep from getting distracted too easily, and ultimately getting frustrated by the stranglehold sensation of having to finish what you started before starting anything else.
*sigh* The truth hurts. Anyway, it’s a good read.

So, it may or may not be too late to have a new years resolution, but I had thoughts of doing this for weeks. I’ve tried to start and maintain blogs before, with little to no luck. So it would seem that my desire to blog is slightly less than my desire to commit to something non-essential. Certainly though, as I get older I do understand more and more the need to share my thoughts if and when there is anybody who cares to listen.
So here we go. Another year, and another blog. And another wordpress theme for somebody to rip-off. Great!
